Has anyone ever seen a gym like this before?
It’s called the BMI 9000 and it was a gift from my buddy Mappy (THANK YOU SCOTT!)
Currently the one I have is taken apart in the garage but I’m looking forward to getting it up in running in the room I’m currently cleaning out.
This is the only picture I have to go on, I can’t find any information on BMI or this machine anywhere in the net. Once I get it to work how do I use it to the fullest without even knowing what each station is called let alone what part it’s designed to focus on?
I know it’s a long shot but if you know anything about it, or even what BMI stands for (its not body mass index) please let me know.
Thanks!
I can look at it and tell you what each station is for. That is about it. The one on the far right is a chest fly machine. You put your arms behind the rollers at a 90 degree angle (hands towards the top palms facing the machine) and squeeze together thus working your chest. On the far left, the bottom half is a leg extension machine to work your quads. You put your knees over the top rollers and your feet/ankles behind the rollers on the bottom and lift up. It also appears that there is a hook at the very bottom of that leg extension machine, I would assume you take the bar from the top and hook it on there to do bicept curls The same side middle section looks like a standard bench press with two grip options. Same side top is a lat pull down bar. Reach over top while sitting down and pull bar straight down towards your collar(picture doing a pull up that you don’t move but instead the bar does). That looks like it for now unless I am missing some other hooks or something.

the link at the top doesn't show so I'm not sure. the three links above I have, in fact it's all i could find on the machine on the entire net. How old must this machine be to only warrant three photos?
thanks for doing that ground work for me, I appreciate it!
I came to the same conclusion you did. The third link firerose posted shows other applications. it's these that i'm interested in. I most likely won't be doing them because I like the more direct method you're talking about, but I'd like to know more about what it's capable of by design just out of plain curiosity.
There is a third part to my machine not featured in this photo. its a chair that's used for ab and leg work. when it's online I'll show you. Its either from another bmi machine or an optional add on.
wish I could find more about bmi to know for sure.
I can help you if your machine looks like this one:

If this resembles your machine, I can provide you with a photograph
(JPEG, 541 X 762 pixels) of a fully assembled machine. I can also
provide a scan of BMI's flyer which shows how to re-configure the
machine for exercises targeting the legs, back, chest, shoulders, and
arms. This scan is rather poor, and the text is not legible, but the
drawings that show the positioning of the machine and the body are
usable. The photograph of the assembled machine is of good quality,
with adequate detail of the all-important pulley mechanisms.
What I am looking at is a "muscle machine" ( BMI ) stands for "Body Muscle Increase' as I remember. We just called it a Muscle machine. they were big in the 60's and they were the top of the line. I don't remember who the spokesman was but i do remember it was featured on the Jack Lalane show almost once a month. The reason you can't find anything on it on the the internet is that they went out of business in the early 80's when Bowflex came out. Anyway the 9000 stands for 9 stations of workout. Have fun with it. PS: I'll bet Scotty has used one and can show you how to use it. There was at least one it every school, and it was mandatory to take PE. back then.
That is the kind of info I was looking for and I never thought I was going to find it. With the real name of the company it should be easier now, thank you!
When my research is done I'm making my own page for with what I've found so others can access it. first time Ive had to fill in the internet about any subject. I had a feeling this machine was a big deal at one point, and I'm amazed that the internet missed it.
