I’ve had this game for 6 months but I’ve finally gotten around to playing it. Gears of War is pretty good.  It’s almost a mindless shoot-em up, but right when I start getting bored they take me to a new area and I’m just blown away by the beauty of the planet…

or should I say sadness of it.  The designers did a fabulous job of making this game.  a few times I could clearly see what these schools and houses looked like before the war 14 years earlier, and now all that’s left is the ruins of this civilization… destroyed by the Gears, not the evil horde mind you.

let me just say that I’m glad this was happening on another planet instead of earth, because if it were landmarks I recognized I might have gotten depressed.  It also has a great “casual” setting that makes satisfying play without a lot of you dieing. Check if out if you get the chance, but I wouldn’t drop alot of money for it… unless of course your a college fratboy, then buy this, Halo, and some beer and leave the rest of my geekdom alone!

The next game I am dropping money on is Stranglehold.  I had netflix send me HardBoiled and I watched it for the first time today, great great movie.  I downloaded the Stranglehold demo on xbox live and I just loved the hell out of it.

Its a free demo, so if you have an xbox it;s worth getting.
