August is always a big month for me for some reason. I’m always starting new jobs and moving during that time. The biggest event by far is that August 13th 1996 was my first day in the air force.
that was 13 years ago. I did my 4 years and got out in 2000, meaning my 10 years of NOT being in the service is right around the corner. Now that I’m much older, I’m really glad I did my time there instead of in a normal 4 year college. I’m certainly not the only one of my family to do it either, lots of Stolmeiers have and still are in the armed forces and I’m sure many more will be too.
The only person I my mothers side that I know about is my grandmother.
she joined during WWII I think I’ll have to ask my mom to make sure.
Happy Anniversary, dude!
Yes she joined during WWII. she was Oppenheimer's secretary at Los Alamos… a fact i did know until long after she died. when ever I asked her about her service, she would just say that she had been a sargeant in the Army in New Mexico. I believe she took her secret oath seriously, and took it with her to the grave. I wish I had known. It would have been fascinating to talk to her about it
Wow….has it really been that long? It doesn't seem that long ago, but damn….time flies.
gotta do better then that, man. Make with the picture.
Ok (I haven't worked out how to put a pic in a reply) here's the link.

I love both of those pictures. My handsome little boy and my beautiful mother. :-)

Sorry for the quality, but it conveys the ears. The original is boxed up somewhere it can't escape from.
nah, that's perfect. lookit those ears!
That is awesome that you are able to connect with your family in this way. My own brother went to Sweden when he got drafted to go to Viet Nam, finally, when he had his own family, three of his kids ended up being career military people!
Congrats on being out for over 10 years now! That’s a really big milestone. A couple of my friends went in right after high school – both have now been out for 3 years. I can’t imagine what it must have been like for them, or you. So thank you for your service!
