I’ve been getting into conversations all over about my feelings on new trek and why I declare it the end of the old universe.  I made a comment on yesterdays blog that I want to repost here to hopefully make it clear.

I’m not the angry fanboy I appear, I don’t want to puch JJ Abrams in the face, or call the old show crap, far from it, it was good.  I just know what it means to the franchise and I know it didn’t have to be this way, the wold thing makes me sad.

every time they travel back in time they have to fix it or lose everything. divergent time line is a poor excuse. It’s human nature to not want to watch a story about a universe that doesn’t count, so this will be the new continuity in the minds of most people if they want it to be or not.

Most importantly, this will BE startrek to new fans just like post infinite crisis superman is the real thing to me. They don’t mean to, but they have ended the universe I know but story wise and production wise. It makes me sad that this is the case.

I don’t know why people are giving me a hard time on this, this new show brings in the end of 40 years of stories in a way that a few bad movies never could no matter how good it is.  No matter how you look at it, it’s the end of the old series just as sure as a complete reboot would have, and I don’t like reboots or prequels because they are the tools of the unimaginative.

In the end, it can call fit if you try no matter what story it is.
